Victor: Hey, son. They told me you were coming. Is there something you want to tell me?

Adam: Well, after giving it some serious thought and discussing it with a few respected individuals, I’ve decided to accept your offer to run mccall unlimited.

Victor: Hmm.

Adam: Uh, I know it may be a little premature, but I know you said you had run into some stumbling blocks about acquiring tucker’s company.

Victor: Yeah, I may have.

Adam: Well, then I would like to offer my services to do whatever’s necessary to remove those issues.

Victor: Glad to hear that. But I assure you, I’ll make the acquisition of mccall a reality.

Adam: Uh, I just have one stipulation.

Victor: Wait a minute. Only one?

Adam: [ Chuckles ] So far. Uh, I want to run mccall as its own entity. No enmeshments with newman enterprises. And I never have to answer to victoria.

Victoria: Devon. Hello.

Devon: What the hell do you want?

Victoria: A — a friendlier greeting than that?

[ Chuckles ]

Devon: Well, I’d give you one if we were friends. Why don’t you call my office and make an appointment like everybody else does?

Victoria: Oh, I just, um, thought I would bypass your personal assistant and just drop by myself. I understand you’re not in the office much these days, which is completely understandable in light of the lawsuit between you and chancellor-winters.

Devon: Alright, I’m not gonna talk about that with you.

Victoria: No, no, that’s not why I stopped by.

Devon: Okay. So, back to my first question. What do you want?

Victoria: I’d like to discuss tucker and the sale of his company.

Ashley: [ Laughs ] I can’t get over that video you sent me of dom tickling the ivories on that little keyboard.

Abby: Isn’t that the most adorable thing you’ve ever seen?

Ashley: Yes. You know, my grandson’s a genius, clearly.

Abby: Oh.

Ashley: Well, seriously. Is there anything he can’t do? He’s gonna grow up and rule the world. Or at least one of his family’s corporations, right? He could be ceo of jabot or newman, chancellor-winters, maybe.

Abby: Mccall unlimited.

Ashley: Yeah, maybe that, too.

Abby: Hmm. What’s going on with you? I mean, I haven’t seen you this happy and excited about the future in quite a while.

Ashley: We’re talking about my brilliant, gorgeous grandson. What do you mean? How could I not dote on him and envision his spectacular future?

Abby: Well, the present’s pretty interesting, too.

Ashley: Honey, anything in particular?

Abby: You’ve been spending a lot of time with tucker recently.

Ashley: Not that much, really.

Abby: And I know you said there was this thing that you were trying to force him to do, but you never told me what that thing was.

Ashley: I didn’t, did I?

Abby: No, you didn’T. So, would you care to elaborate?

Nate: Come on inside. We can speak privately here.

Daniel: [ Exhales sharply ] You know, I’m not sure I should be talking to a man who was eavesdropping on my conversation.

Nate: I can explain.

Daniel: You can start with how we “both want the same thing.” If this has anything to do with acquiring omega sphere —

Nate: No, no, no, this — none of that. This has absolutely nothing to do with business.

Daniel: It’s personal.

Nate: Very. This battle between my cousins — it’s got me worried. And from what I overheard, i gather you feel the same way.

Daniel: So you actually give a damn? I’m just asking because…

Nate: Yeah. Lily’s told you what I did.

Daniel: Betrayed your family. You were a step away from selling out the company because you got your feelings hurt. Am I close?

Nate: Look, I’ll regret what I did to the day I die. It was reckless and thoughtless, and I’ve tried to make amends.

Daniel: It’s hard to come back from something like that.

Nate: But maybe this is a way to repair some of that damage.

Daniel: What are you talking about doing?

Nate: That’s the thing. I need your help. When you have chronic kidney disease.

Abby: You’re really not gonna tell me what’s going on with tucker?

Ashley: What do you want to know?

Abby: I want to know how he wormed his way into your good graces.

Ashley: Okay, there’s been no worming.

Abby: And if he told you that he’s a changed man —

Ashley: I would say, “show me.”

Abby: Well, you know, the world’s most fascinating man would have to do something pretty big to prove that he’s changed, right? I mean, to say that he’s sorry for all the lies that he’s told, for the scheme that he was doing to try to take over chancellor-winters and jabot.

Ashley: Honey, I just can’t say anything about it right now.

Abby: Well, at least you’re having fun playing games with a man you said that you could never trust. Mom, I am worried about devon.

Ashley: I’m not playing games. I’m worried about devon, too.

Abby: He has a lot of questions that he’s trying to answer right now. Like, is his father being sincere? Should he consider buying mccall unlimited? Mom, please tell me. Do you think that tucker has changed? Devon needs someone that he can believe in. Is there a chance that tucker could be a good, honest man?

Victoria: So, here’s what i know. Tucker wants to sell mccall unlimited and divest himself of everything. He just wants to walk away. But it seems that some person of interest has come in and bought up all of his debt. I suspect that person is ashley.

Devon: Okay.

Victoria: So, my question to you is, did tucker approach you about buying the company and taking control?

Devon: That’s what you came here to ask me? Why do you care?

Victoria: I wonder — are you aware that your father approached me first about buying his company? Y-you didn’t know that, did you?

Devon: Well, why would i believe a word that comes out of your mouth anyway?

Victoria: I have nothing to gain from lying to you, but clearly tucker thought that he did.

Adam: Do you plan on telling me what’s behind that self-satisfied smile?

Victor: Oh, yeah, you want to know? It’s these demands you’re making.

Adam: To keep mccall its own entity?

Victor: That was my idea for you to run the company, as well.

Adam: Well, then we are on the same page. Good.

Victor: I just had to close certain doors to make sure that you realized where the hell you belong.

Adam: You know, jack stuck his neck out to give me that job.

Victor: Jack abbott. Good god, man, how did you ever become involved with that guy? Anyway, what was — what was the final straw?

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Are you really gonna make me do this?

Victor: Yeah. Take your time. Sit down.

Adam: [ Sighs ] I was half-assing it at jabot. My heart wasn’t in it, and i realized that I didn’t belong there. So as much as it pains me to admit this, you were right about the job — and about me. Do you struggle with occasional nerve aches

Nate: Look, this is one of the most difficult things I’ve ever been through, causing this all-out war between my cousins. Look, I shook the faith they had in the merger and the future of the company. Hell, in me. Watching the devastation that i created, bearing witness to all that pain. Don’t ask me how I sleep at night because I don’T.

[ Sighs ]

Daniel: Well, you bury yourself in your work. And you think maybe if some kind of good can come out of this, then maybe you’ll be worthy of their love and forgiveness.

Nate: Maybe that’s crossed my mind a time or two.

Daniel: Yeah. I had a feeling.

Nate: Look, I don’t expect lily to forgive me overnight — if she ever does — and it’s probably gonna take an act of god before devon and I could ever get back to where we were before I started this whole damn thing.

Daniel: That still doesn’t answer my question. What do you want me to do about it?

Nate: Help me put an end to this battle.

Daniel: Nate [Laughs] I don’t think —

Nate: Look, I can only get so close, and neither one of them will listen to me. In fact, the only thing they have in common right now is how much they hate me. So I need y– if we work together —

Daniel: Hey, hey. Wait. Wait. Let me just finish painting that picture for you. Um…you convince me to help you, devon and lily, they settle their lawsuit without any bloodshed on either side, they turn to me, they say, “oh, daniel, you’re our hero,” undying gratitude, et cetera, et cetera. And then I say, “wait, no, actually, the person that you should really be thanking is your cousin.” And there’s shock and there’s tears, forgiveness all the way around. Everybody kisses and makes up. And then they throw us this big family-style dinner party. I don’t know. I’m just spit-balling here. Is that what you have in mind?

Nate: I know what I’m up against. If it looks like I’m motivated by a sense of self-preservation, then I own it. It’s a natural human instinct to want to be accepted into one’s pack.

Daniel: Alright, well, let me — let me present you with a more plausible outcome. Um, you do all the right things. Instead of restoring the peace, you actually make things worse. You dig up a bunch of old feelings of anger and betrayal and distrust and you just make the wounds deeper. And then I wind up getting partial blame for helping the most hated guy in the family.

[ Sighs ] Yeah, that’s gonna be a hard pass for me. Um, you can count me out.

Nate: Okay. So, I was wrong, and you don’t care if lily gets her family back.

Daniel: Nate, you can’t put this back together again. Let devon and lily work it out between themselves.

[ Door closes ]

Ashley: I know how complicated this is for devon, okay? And by the way — let’s be very clear about this — tucker never does anything unless he really wants to do it.

Abby: So, now he wants to step up and be a parent? I don’t buy it.

Ashley: Well, honey, it’s not really about you. It’s — it’s about devon.

Abby: Yes, it is about devon. And he’s about to lose the company that he built with his father. He’s estranged from his cousin. He’s about to go scorched-earth with lily in court.

Ashley: I can’t tell you how much I hate to hear about that.

Abby: Imagine how I feel. I have to just sit back and watch it happen. There’s nothing I can do to stop it.

Ashley: Okay. Maybe we just have to have a little faith, okay? Everything’s gonna work out the way it’s supposed to. It’s gonna be okay.

Abby: Devon is a good man. And you know what that means. Things don’t always work out for the good guy, do they?

Abby: He’s already lost so much. He’s lost members of his family. He’s lost faith in his family. Mom, I just — I wish that —

Ashley: I understand you want to fix things.

Abby: I wish I had answers. Do you think that tucker is acting in the best interests of devon?

[ Doorknob rattles ] Or do you think this is some sort of grand gesture to try to impress you?

[ Sighs ]

Victoria: I take it that tucker didn’t let you know that you weren’t the first one he offered his company to?

Devon: No, he made it seem like I was the only person he was gonna approach.

Victoria: Well, of course. You know, please don’t take my word for it. You should ask him yourself.

Devon: Right. You said he took the offer off the table, though, right?

Victoria: Yes, that’s right. After some mysterious entity bought up all of the debt, all of a sudden, mccall was no longer in the market.

Devon: Hmm.

Victoria: Look, the way that he’s been going back and forth and being less than transparent, I don’t blame you for not trusting him.

Devon: Well, I’m just trying to figure out why you care so much that you’d come all the way here to talk about it with me.

Victoria: I have a question for you.

Devon: What’s that?

Victoria: Newman is still very much interested in buying mccall unlimited, and I’d like to know where you stand, just in case I am forced to play hardball.

Victor: [ Sighs ] All I ever wanted is for you to be at a place where you can be happy, where you could grow.

Adam: Well, that’s why I feel like this is — this is the right move for me.

Victor: Yeah.

Adam: I just had an enlightening conversation with sharon. She, uh, helped me find some clarity on a few things.

Victor: What wisdom could sharon possibly impart?

Adam: She told me I need to find something that I’m passionate about, something that I can commit myself to, you know, give me a sense of purpose. And then I realized that is exactly what you were offering me.

Victor: You know, there were some people who warned me that you would never believe that I’m on your side.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Well, there’s nothing I enjoy more than proving people wrong.

Victor: [ Laughs ] Especially when they’re the newmans, right? Son, I’m your father. I know you.

Adam: Dad, thank you for, um, not giving up on me. But, uh, back to the business at hand.

Victor: You mean mccall.

Adam: Mm. Are you certain that victoria is on board with this? She knows about your plan and me?

Victor: Don’t you worry about victoria, alright? Leave her to me. Known as a loving parent.

Lily: Hey.

Daniel: Hey.

Lily: I got your message while I was on a call with amanda.

Daniel: Yeah. She’s doing well?

Lily: Yeah. Yeah, she’s good. She’s excited to sink her teeth into hamilton-winters. Which I don’t know if that’s because she’s motivated or because she wants to make devon pay, but I don’t really care. I just want to win.

Daniel: You know, maybe if you could come to an understanding with your brother, there could be a quick resolution.

Lily: Quick? No. I mean, it’s corporate law. It could take years. But anyway, it doesn’t matter. Let’s, um — let’s sit. What, uh — what’s going on? Is there a problem with the project?

Daniel: No, no, nothing like that.

Lily: Okay. Well, you made it sound important.

Daniel: Well, it is. Uh, it’s about you. Nate, actually. Um, I just thought I should give you a heads-up.

Lily: What is it?

Daniel: He overheard us at society earlier.

Lily: Right. Of course he did. What did he — what did he hear? What were we saying?

Daniel: Hamilton versus winters, uh, you and devon. He was just trying to recruit me to help put an end to the lawsuit.

Lily: He said that?

Daniel: He feels responsible for the original rift between the two of you. Maybe he’s thinking —

Lily: Right, thinking that we will forgive him if he just tries to solve everything? I mean [Scoffs] Of course he would. Of course, once again, he thinks it’s all about the great nate hastings.

Devon: You know, victoria, i have enough problems in my life right now. I don’t need to add tucker to the list.

Victoria: Well, that’s very interesting, but for my own clarification, does that mean that you are not considering the purchase of mccall unlimited?

Devon: Uh, I don’t have anything to say to you about that ’cause we’re not buddies. You literally tried to go after my company not that long ago. Remember?

Victoria: I think we’ve been through that.

Devon: We have, and you’re still denying it, so… you think you can come over here today and try to talk to me about my business dealings? Come on. Tucker isn’t that the only person I don’t trust in this town.

Victoria: I’ve been very transparent with you about this. I want that company.

Devon: Okay. I can’t help you get it.

Victoria: Look, you know tucker’s just trying to use this to score points with you. He just wants to manipulate his way back into your life. You think you don’t trust him now? Well, just wait. If you buy mccall [Chuckles] That’s gonna be very complicated because that company is not a gift. It’s a curse. It’s the complete opposite of what you built at hamilton-winters. So, you just say the word, and I’ll take care of everything. You don’t have to do a thing. I’m pretty sure that that’s what’s best for everyone.

[ Door opens and closes ]

Tucker: Hey, how are you, abby?

Abby: I’ll talk to you soon.

Ashley: I love you.

Abby: I love you. Goodbye.

[ Door closes ]

Ashley: I hope you have good news.

Tucker: I have not heard from devon about my offer.

Ashley: Oh, that’s unfortunate.

Tucker: Yeah, but, uh, I feel like I got my second wind. I dug deep, and I think I’ve found some viable options.

Ashley: I want to hear all about it.

Tucker: Okay. So, what if we made the sale of the company contingent upon large-scale charitable donations to causes that are near and dear to your heart? For instance, um, the future is female, right? So we would — yeah, it is. So we would advocate for girls and young women pursuing careers in the sciences, um, environmental groups. You know, we’d clean up the oceans and that kind of thing. So, whoever bought the company would need to be prepared to educate and beautify the planet because it would be baked into any contract I signed. Only sustainable practices and all that.

[ Both laugh ]

Ashley: You would do all that?

Tucker: Yeah, sure. And more.

Ashley: Just for me?

Tucker: For us, for — for the world, for the — for the universe. I’m trying to think globally, you know.

Ashley: Right. Well, could you maybe just work locally? Please don’t give up on devon.

Tucker: [ Sighs ] He’s inflexible.

Ashley: No, he’s being cautious.

Tucker: Well, what am i supposed to do?

Ashley: You just found a million ways to change the world. You can’t think of one or two to change devon’s mind?

Tucker: There’s only so much one man can do.

Ashley: Yeah, but you’re not any man, are you? You are tucker mccall, right? You go where other men don’t tread. They don’T. Things might get difficult, they might take more time, but you get them done.

Tucker: You’re not exaggerating, are you?

Ashley: I’m not. But then again, I can’t help but think if this was one of your silly business deals motivated by your ego and your greed, it would have been done by sunset. So, maybe you just don’t want it enough. We do it every night.

“The young and the restless”

will continue. What’s the #1 retinol brand

Lily: [ Scoffs ] I mean, the fact that nate is spying on my conversation — it’s like, should I be worried about him again?

Daniel: I don’t think it was intentional, and I doubt he wants to try and use that information against you.

Lily: Well, I mean, he’s done things in the past that i thought he was never capable of.

Daniel: Exactly why I told him it was a bad idea. And I told him he wasn’t involved and he should stay out of it.

Lily: Good. Thank you.

Daniel: But I got to say — and I know it’s none of my business — the guy is hurting over what he almost did to chancellor-winters.

Lily: Uh-huh. He should be.

Daniel: Do you think the crime deserves a life sentence?

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Daniel: Okay. Yeah. No, no, no, I — I will shut my mouth. You’re right. It’s none of my business. None of my business. After — after I say just this one last thing. He sincerely wants to help you and devon find a peaceful resolution.

Lily: Yeah, that’s great. I would like that, too. Everybody wants peace in their family. I mean, all I wanted was for us to work together and build something that we could be proud of. But then, you know, billy walks away. Nate tries to destroy it all. Devon’s now suing me. It’s like, why is this happening?

[ Door opens ]

[ Door closes ]

Abby: Studying for a test?

Devon: Hey.

Abby: Hi.

Devon: Didn’t hear you come in.

Abby: Mwah! I had a few minutes before my staff meeting. I wanted to see how you’re doing.

Devon: Oh, yeah?

Abby: Yeah.

Devon: Good. I’m just going over some financials here.

Abby: Oh. For hamilton-winters?

Devon: No. For mccall unlimited, actually.

Abby: Okay.

Devon: Yeah. You got here at the perfect time.

Abby: I love hearing that.

Devon: I could use some fresh eyes on this, if you don’t mind.

Abby: Okay. What is it?

Tucker: Um, do you remember when I filled in for mccall a few years back?

Abby: Yes, when tucker went off the grid in search of enlightenment.

Devon: Exactly. Yeah. And I did everything I can to make sure that the company didn’t fall off the deep end.

Abby: I remember.

Devon: Well, the people that he left in charge ignored all the fixes that I put in place and they fell back into some bad practices and the company’s never really recovered.

Abby: Okay. Well, are you saying it’s not worth buying anymore?

Devon: Well, no, that’s the thing, is even though it’s a mess, it has good bones. And I think that if, you know, there’s the right person leading it, it would just take a few tweaks to cut off the divisions that aren’t operating up to par. And it actually would be pretty valuable and worth something.

Abby: Are you interested in being that right person?

Devon: That I don’t know. But I have been thinking that it’s probably not a good idea to enter into this lawsuit with lily, uh, with having nothing but my hat in my hands.

Abby: Because you could lose and end up with nothing.

Devon: Right. And this would be the answer to that. So, I don’t know. Maybe I should consider buying mccall just ’cause it would definitely be a safety net for me.

Victor: Sweetheart, have you met with devon concerning the purchase of mccall?

Victoria: I have. He claimed he wasn’t interested.

Victor: Oh, really? You don’t believe him, do you?

Victoria: Well, it wasn’t the friendliest of meetings.

Victor: I’m not surprised.

Victoria: I let him know what my intentions are, and he would neither confirm nor deny my suspicions.

Victor: That means we shift into high gear right now. We go after mccall, and once we have it, it’ll remain a separate entity from newman.

Victoria: I beg your pardon?

Victor: You heard me correctly. It’ll remain a separate entity from newman, and adam will be in charge.

Victoria: Dad, you can’t be serious about that.

Victor: You’ve always known that I wanted him to run that new corporation.

Victoria: No, that was when i assumed that mccall would be kept a part of newman. Look, I’ve — I’ve reworked the numbers and what buying it would entail and —

Victor: We keep what’s worth it and we throw out the rest.

Victoria: Exactly. That’s exactly right. We need to get rid of the dead weight.

Victor: And adam will be the ceo of the new corporation. You either accept the deal, or it’s off the table.

And it’s easier than ever to get

your projects done right .

Victoria: You’re using what could be a very attractive acquisition to bribe your son into being beholden to you.

Victor: That is not why I’m doing it. I’m doing this for the sake of my son. This will empower him.

Victoria: Dad, he would never be able to stand the scrutiny if he had to answer to me, and that’s exactly another reason why you’re doing this. You don’t care if the acquisition is profitable or not. You just want adam to feel like he’s the big man in charge.

Victor: The discussion is over, okay? Adam will be in charge.

[ Knock on door ] Come in!

[ Door opens ]

Nate: Hey. Victor.

Victor: Hey, nate.

Nate: Always good to see you. Uh, look, I can come back if you’re —

Victor: No, no, it’s alright. I’m just on the way out, okay? No further discussion about this.

[ Door closes ]

Victoria: [ Sighs ]

Nate: Whatever that was about, I am glad I missed it.

Victoria: My father and i were discussing mccall.

Nate: Any new updates?

Victoria: Dad is adamant about putting adam in charge of the company, which would be palatable if I knew that mccall were gonna be a part of newman and I would be the one making the final decisions.

Nate: But your father has plans of his own.

Victoria: He just informed me that he intends to keep mccall a separate entity, with adam in charge, answering to no one.

Nate: And you’re not having that.

Victoria: Absolutely not. Now, there is no way that I am letting adam get his hands on that company.

Nate: So, what are you gonna do — kill the deal?

Victoria: Oh, no, no. No. No way in hell. Mccall is mine.

Devon: I mean, mccall could definitely be a great insurance policy for me.

Abby: Thank you.

Devon: Yeah. ‘Cause no matter what ends up happening, I’d still have a company, you know? And it would be something that’s established, that I can still build on. But at the same time, I have to consider who’s selling me this company. And why would I trust anything he says at this point after what he’s done? Maybe this is just his way of manipulating me to get back into my life again.

Abby: Hear me out.

Devon: Sure.

Abby: What if tucker means well? What if there are no strings attached?

Devon: I — I don’t know “what if?” ‘Cause that’s never been the case. You know, I — you’re very trusting. I know you didn’t get that trait from victor newman.

Abby: Well, maybe you should get to know victor newman a little bit better — ’cause my dad thinks that people can change and that family is the most important thing. And I just happen to agree with him. So, maybe — maybe you can admit that you’re wrong about that?

Devon: Yeah, okay.

Abby: Okay?

Devon: I’m wrong about that. You’re right.

Abby: You’re wrong about that, and then maybe…

Devon: Hmm?

Abby: …You could admit that it’s possible that you could be wrong about your own father?

Devon: It’s possible? Uh, well…I did find out that he offered to sell his company to newman before coming to me.

Abby: How’d you find that out?

Devon: ‘Cause your sister came over here and told me. And she wanted to know if he tried to sell it to me yet.

Abby: So, she said that he tried to sell it to newman first?

Devon: Mm-hmm. And then she made it very, very clear that newman is very interested in buying it. She’s something else, I’ll tell you.

Abby: Okay, I do love my sister, devon.

Devon: I know you love your sister. I know. I love my sister, too.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Devon: Whether or not she’ll ever believe that again is another story.

Abby: But the question is, what’s victoria’s next move?

Tucker: I think you know how much I want this. Even I can’t control a human heart.

Ashley: Well, the tucker mccall that I used to know would never let anything stand between him and what he desired.

Tucker: So, you want me to move heaven and earth?

Tucker: Wouldn’t be the first time. You’re actually gonna let your child dictate how the rest of your life unfolds?

Tucker: I just don’t want to force the issue onto him.

Ashley: Think of another way. I mean, you’re not trying to ruin devon. You’re trying to help him. Selling mccall to him is a game changer, not just for devon, but for you… for your grandson… for the future.

Tucker: And what’s the future for us? Is there an us? I see —

[Sneezing]

Lily: I just was so excited when we started this journey. You know? I really, really thought that we could build something that my dad and katherine would be proud of.

Daniel: Something you could all be proud of.

Lily: Yeah, I thought we would build a legacy, you know, something that would outlast all of us.

Daniel: Big dreams.

Lily: [ Exhales sharply ] Yeah. I guess too big.

Daniel: No. No. That’s garbage. Look, you’re running a multimillion-dollar company. You are loyal. You’re focused. And if you’re too damn polite to say it, I’ll say it for you.

Lily: Say what?

Daniel: You’re giving 110% every day, into the night. You are living to make this thing a reality. I’m right, right? Right. I’m right, aren’t I?

Lily: Yeah. Close.

Daniel: So it makes sense that you would expect at least that much from your family and the people around you. You know, they’re the ones that are supposed to be there fighting with you, you know, for the things that you want and they’re supposed to be there to support you. So, I don’t want to hear that you failed or that you failed anyone else. You didn’t fail the company. Everyone around you —

they failed you.

Devon: Victoria is trying to salvage the deal that she had in place before tucker pulled out.

Abby: But why did tucker kill the deal? It doesn’t make any sense. He had a sure thing. Did victoria say what turned him off?

Devon: If she knew, she didn’t tell me. But I get the feeling that she thinks it’s tied to whoever bought tucker’s debt.

Abby: So, there may be a connection between tucker and the person or entity who owns his debt. Interesting. Well, does that make you want to make a deal? Or does it make you want to walk away?

Tucker: Okay, you just, uh — you just tell me what it is you want, and I’ll make it happen.

Ashley: Be careful what you wish for.

Tucker: You say the word.

Ashley: Look, I want this to work. I want to know that you are sincere about wanting to heal things with devon. I want you to be a man that he can believe in and a man that he can trust. And I want you to help him love that beautiful little boy of his. And I really want to stop thinking about all of this because I’m terrified that i feel anything for you.

Tucker: Okay. [ Chuckles ] You’re in a conundrum, aren’t you? But I tell you — oh.

[ Cellphone pings ]

[ Gasps ] Unbelievable.

Ashley: What?

Tucker: This is good. It’s from devon — “let’s talk.”

[ Chuckles ] It’s so perfect, the timing of it. It’s the universe.

Ashley: What do you mean?

Tucker: You — the kiss. You kissed me, and it was so — it was life-changing and world-shaking and — and powerful enough to change devon’s perspective. He could feel the vibrations, you see, across —

Ashley: Well, it wasn’t that good, not really.

Tucker: You’re a liar. It was good. We just took a step in the right direction, and now the world is spinning the right way for me.

Ashley: [ Laughs ] You’re weird.

Tucker: Yes, I am. But I’ve — I’ve found a moral obligation, you see, to, uh —

[Laughing] To do good for others.

Ashley: Really?

Devon: Yes. Sacrifice. I’m gonna sacrifice self-interest to help those i love. Yeah, things are falling into place for me, baby. And for us and devon. You don’t feel that?

Ashley: No.

Tucker: Eh. Don’t worry. You will.

Ashley: Mm.

Tucker: Change is coming. Before this whole thing is through, you’re going to see that we are absolutely meant to be together.

Ashley: Get out of here.

Tucker: Yai-da-da-ee

ya-da-da, da-da-dum

Ashley: [ Chuckles ]

Tucker: Doo-da-da-dai

Victoria: I guess you haven’t heard. I always get what I want, one way or another.

Nate: What about compromise? So both sides get what they want and no one feels like they’ve lost.

Victoria: Well, you know, that might work on the playground, but that just don’t work in the corporate world. The corporate world is messy. It’s ugly. It’s very unforgiving. It’s like in a family. You know, these issues — they’re constantly changing. You have to remind yourself this is a marathon. It’s not a sprint. You have to pace yourself. You have to have fun with it and let them think that they’re winning. And then you go in for the kill. Do you trust me?

Nate: You know I do.

Victoria: Good. You just put yourself in my hands, nate. I have everything under control.
